Food Project -- Phase II

One of the first things we did for the food project was go visit the new HEB grocery store in our area.  We had a tour of the store.  We also shopped for recipes that each group had decided to make and then went on a picnic.
Most of the students favorite part was the adventure on the school bus!

Here are some journal drawings of our trip to HEB.  They drew about the bus, the seafood department and the tour guide.

We also created alot of authentic materials such as 2-D and 3-D art.  We drew alot of pictures about the things that we were doing in the restaurant.

This work represents some of the menus that were made, some drawings of the restaurant.  Also, were some predictions of stories that we read.  Some children made food and then others cut favorite foods out of magazines.

These children had made 3-D art out of recycle materials.  They told me that they had created birthday cakes.

We also became cashiers, customers, and cooks as we had the restaurant in our classroom.

During Phase II we made our recipes that we had shopped for at the grocery store.  This group was making cheese toast.

This group was making alphabet bread sticks for the class.

As Phase II ended we had learned all about the food pyramid, many things about a restaurant and a lot of information about money and money exchanges.
