Parent’s Comments on the Project

  • “My son showed a higher level of interest in the topic of butterflies.  He was able to understand what a cocoon was and how a caterpillar changed into a butterfly.  Also, while sitting around after supper one night, he asked my wife and I if we knew what metamorphosis was.  I was so surprised.  I didn’t even know he knew how to say the word much less what it meant.  I think the topic of butterflies defiantly sparked an interest for further research with my child.  He was very excited about what he saw and learned on the field trip.  In the future, I think there should be more topics and trips like this to captivate the interests of the children.”
  • “J. was always telling us something new when she came home from school.  She learned the stages of the butterflies from observing them in the classroom.  She would explain the process of metamorphosis with detailed vocabulary, which overwhelmed my husband and I.  J. became amazed with butterflies and would look for caterpillars every time we were in the yard.  I was very impressed with her wanting to share her knowledge with us in such a detailed manner. Overall, she really enjoyed learning about butterflies.  It has held her attention and sparked her curiosity.”
  • My child broke down the process of a butterflies life cycle to me in detail.  I was so surprised at the vocabulary he used.  You should definitely continue using Project Approach because it is a great interest to our kids.”
  • “N. enjoyed learning how caterpillars change into butterflies.  He liked the different phases that they go through and was able to explain them in detail.  He also enjoyed the field trip to Moody Gardens and observing at all the different stages and beautiful butterflies there.  Now when we go outside, he is constantly looking for butterflies.  I think this topic was very beneficial for the kids to learn about.”
  • “Butterflies is all H. talks about.  She was full of information and detail to share with us daily such as body parts, different types of butterflies, and she knew more than her grandpa or myself.  H. got on the Internet at home searched for more information about butterflies.  Overall, we think the project has been excellent.  H. has been so excited to go to school and learn more about butterflies.  In addition, I think the kindergarten teachers are doing a great job keeping the kids interests, and also involving them.  Keep it up!”
