Outdoor Discovery Center
Workday |
 |
Thirty-two volunteers
comprised of students,
staff, and community workers
braved freezing
temperatures, wind, and
standing water to plant 200
plants and trees in the
Outdoor Discovery Center.
The Outdoor Discovery Center
is roughly a two-acre area
that is being transformed
into a habitat for native
plants and animals. |
|
|
Ron Jones of the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service was on hand
with shovels to lead the group.
He taught the volunteers the
correct method for planting
trees and plants, and also
answered questions. Hot cocoa
and donuts warmed cold bellies
and tired hands. Students from
the elementary that participated
were treated to a Sonic lunch
the following Monday. For
information on how you can get
involved, please contact Elissa
Jordan at the elementary by
email at
ejordan@eastchambers.net.

2009 Conservation Poster
Winners Selected |
 |
Each year students from East
Chambers participate in the
Trinity Bay Soil and Water
Conservation District's
poster contest. The theme
for the 2009 poster contest
was “Dig-it” The Secrets of
Soil, which covered the
resource that truly is this
nation’s foundation - soil.
The poster entries were
judged at the local level by
the Trinity Bay Soil and
Water Conservation District
#434 with winners being
sent on to area-level
competition. Ultimately, the
state winner will be
selected from the winners of
the five area competitions.
|
|
|
|
The poster contest is designed
to demonstrate the importance of
conservation and taking care of
one’s surroundings while giving
contestants an opportunity to
express their artistic ability.
This year's local winners of the
conservation poster contest are
1st place, Sonia Netro; 2nd
place, Maegan Sonnier, and 3rd
